2011 WSS Portimao Test Friday Session 1 Times: Scassa Beats Salom On Drying Track

The weather is a little better at Portimao on Friday morning, but while the track is starting to dry out a little, it's still pretty damp. The Yamaha of Luca Scassa led the way again, clocking a time in the low 1'57s, finishing ahead of an impressive David Salom on the Motocard.com Kawasaki. Sam Lowes was fastest of the Hondas, the Parkalgar rookie continuing to turn heads at his team's home circuit.

The test for the World Supersport riders concludes this afternoon.

2011 WSS Portimao Test Thursday Session 1 Times: Lowes Fastest In The Wet

The track remains wet at Portimao, but with temperatures climbing, most of the World Supersport riders present decided to brave the conditions and take to the track. Parkalgar's brand new rider Sam Lowes continues to impress, setting the fastest time of the session, ahead of PTR Bogdanka's James Ellison, a seasoned veteran, though not on a World Supersport machine. Ellison and Lowes were the only two riders to get under the two minute mark, BE1's Luca Scassa taking 3rd spot just shy of two minutes, with Kawasaki's Broc Parkes four tenths behind Scassa.

2011 WSBK Portimao Test Thursday Session 1 Times: Checa Fastest In Freezing Rain

The weather on Portugal's Algarve coast turned cold and wet overnight, making the prospect of running a lot of laps in pre-season testing a deeply unappealing one to most riders. While most chose to stay in their garages (or like Johnny Rea, seek treatment in the medical center), eight dauntless souls braved the rain and worked on a wet weather setting for the 2011 World Superbike machines. Of the fearless, Carlos Checa was fastest on the Althea Ducati, finishing ahead of Eugene Laverty and Nori Haga. The weather prospects are looking better for this afternoon.

Sachsenring 2009 MotoGP race analysis

While the weather had produced torrential downpours thoughout the preamble to this GP, it stayed dry for the action in Germany. As the riders lined up on the grid, there was a real feeling of anticipation as Rossi and Lorenzo, so close through practice until that awesome final qualifying lap from Valentino, pulled up next [...]

Paul Sr. Quietly Selling Bikes from His Personal Collection

UPDATE: Add a 1943 BSA M20 to the list of bike’s available from Paul Teutul Sr.’s personal collection. Paul Teutul Sr. cannot seem to stay out of the news lately. First the senior Teutul sued his son for ownership of Orange County Choppers, invoking a minority buyout clause that would pay Paul Jr. the market value of the business, which was allegedly valued at nothing, thus robbing Paul Jr. of his shares. Then just recently ...

2011 WSBK Portimao Test Thursday Session 2 Times: Rea Back On Top

With the rain easing off since this morning, the afternoon saw most of the WSBK riders venture out on the second day of testing at Portimao. The two main exceptions were the factory Aprilia riders of Max Biaggi and Leon Camier, who, luckily as it turned out, had been booked to spend the day at a Piaggio event, before flying back to Portimao in the afternoon.

The afternoon saw Johnny Rea top the timesheets, after skipping the morning session, the Castrol Honda rider finishing ahead of Sterilgarda Yamaha's Marco Melandri, the Italian making significant progress at the Portuguese circuit. Carlos Checa was once again near the top of the timesheets, ending the day in 3rd, ahead of the Liberty Ducatis of Sylvain Guintoli and Jakub Smrz.

Testing concludes on Friday.
